The EMK Lookbook™ is an ongoing publication that documents textured hair, protective styling, and everyday beauty through real people and real life. Rather than focusing only on editorial photography or finished hairstyles, each volume explores how textured hair exists across different seasons, lifestyles, professions, and moments of daily life.
Because textured hair isn't reserved for special occasions.
It's simply part of everyday life.
Why We Created the Lookbook
For many people with textured hair, wearing natural hair or protective styles still comes with assumptions.

Natural hair may be viewed as "unprofessional."

Braids are sometimes associated with stereotypes rather than craftsmanship, heritage, or everyday beauty.
At the same time, when textured hair appears in fashion media, it is often presented only through dramatic editorial styling or runway concepts.
Both realities leave out something important:
Everyday life.
The EMK Lookbook was created to document textured hair as it actually exists: at work, at school, while traveling, spending time with family, meeting friends, or simply going about daily routines.
Our Perspective
We believe protective styling should feel normal.
Not unusual.
Not controversial.
Not something people feel they need to justify.
Braids, twists, curls, locs, and natural texture are simply different ways people care for and express their crowns. The more these styles are seen in ordinary settings, the more they become recognized as a natural part of everyday life.
