Meet My Hair
My Crown ID, my history, and where my hair is going from here.

Where we are starting
Before I review anything under GLOW Reviews™, it felt right to introduce my own hair first. Not because my hair is the subject, but because everything I have built at EMK Beauty House has been shaped, directly or indirectly, by living in this crown. If you are going to read my opinions on products, styling approaches, tools, and services, you should know what I am working with and what I am working toward.
So. Meet my hair.

Crown ID™ Code | Category | Profile | What It Means |
DC~ | Pattern Flow & Shrinkage | Defined Curl · Moderate Shrinkage | My curls have a clear, defined shape and clump naturally without much effort. The ~ indicates moderate shrinkage, so my hair looks noticeably shorter when dry than when stretched, but not so dramatically that it appears freshly cut between washes. |
2 | Strand Diameter | Medium | My strands are neither fine nor coarse. This is a relatively easygoing thickness to work with: less fragile than fine hair and less demanding than coarse strands. |
M | Porosity | Medium | My hair absorbs moisture at a reasonable pace and retains it reasonably well. This is generally a manageable porosity range, although mine has shifted over the years depending on heat use and chemical history. |
F | Density | Full | I have a lot of hair. Its full density creates great volume, but products must be distributed deliberately and section by section or they may sit on the surface without reaching all of my hair. |
M | Elasticity | Medium | My hair stretches and bounces back, which is a positive sign of structural health. It does not have the elasticity of completely untreated hair, but it is resilient and I am happy with its current condition. |
M | Length | Medium · Unstretched | My hair currently sits around shoulder length in its natural, unstretched state. This is the starting point of my hair journey, so I expect this code to change over time. |
♦︎ HX | Surface Expression | Halo-Expressive | My hair naturally expands outward and forms a soft halo rather than falling close to my head. At its current length, it wants to take up space. This is part of my hair’s personality, and I have learned to let it express itself. |
RF | Surface Expression | Reactive | My hair responds noticeably to humidity, temperature, and atmospheric conditions. It can behave completely differently on a dry day than on a humid one. I find this responsiveness fascinating, even when it is inconvenient. |
The history
As the founder of EMK Beauty House, I have genuinely tried almost every hairstyle that exists. Box braids, cornrows, locs, wigs, weaves, cuts in every direction. I have also done chemical treatments. Relaxers. Color. A lot of heat over a lot of years. I put my hair through a lot, partly out of curiosity, partly because exploring is part of the job, and partly because that is just how life goes when you are deeply embedded in the beauty world.
I do not regret any of it. Every single style and experiment taught me something. But I have reached a point where I know very clearly what I want now, and it is different from everything I was doing before.
I have done everything. Now I just want to grow my hair out and leave it alone.
The goal
My goal is to grow my hair to waist length in its natural state. Not mid-back when I pull it straight, actually waist length when it is just sitting there being itself. For hair with moderate shrinkage like mine that means the actual stretched length will be quite a bit longer than that, but the target is the natural state. It is a long commitment and I am genuinely excited about it.
No more chemical treatments. That one is fully decided for me. Not a judgment on anyone else, I have been there and I get it, but my personal chapter with chemicals is done.
The method is EMK sustainable braiding, which basically means protective styling done with actual intention. Real rest periods between installs. Active scalp care and moisture work while the braids are in, not just braiding and forgetting about it for eight weeks. That is not protection, that is just neglect with better aesthetics.
The honest reason I keep braids in for most of my styling period is that I hate covering my hair when I sleep. I know I should. I really do know. But I just do not do it consistently, and if my natural hair is out, the friction from sleeping will break it quietly and persistently every single night. Braids solve that problem in a way that actually works with how I actually live, rather than how I plan to live.

What this means for GLOW Reviews™
Everything I review here gets filtered through this crown and these goals. When I talk about a product I am talking about how it works on defined, moderately shrinking, halo-expressive, wildly reactive hair that is in a long-term growth and protection phase. When I talk about a service I am coming from someone who has been on both sides of the chair and has lost hair from a bad install even while building a brand about why that should not happen. When I talk about a tool or an educational resource I am talking about it as someone who has spent years building a standard for this exact space.
That context matters. An opinion without context is just noise. With context, it becomes something you can actually use.
Reviews under GLOW Reviews™ come from me and from professionals in the EMK ecosystem. Different lenses, same commitment to honesty.
This is where it starts.

表面表現はHalo-Expressive(外側に広がる)とReactive(環境に敏感に反応する)の二重表現です。
